In fact this was their fourth highest in a day’s play in Test cricket.The world record for most runs scored in a day’s play for any side is 503-2 by England (from 28-0 to 531-2) against South Africa on the 2nd day at Lords in 1924.For both sides in a day, it is 588-6 (England 398-6) against India (190-0) on the 2nd day at Old Trafford in 1936. The record for most runs scored by both sides, with one side being Pakistan, is 469-4, England (437-44) and Pakistan (59-0) at Trent Bridge in 1954.
